Auditions

The Columbus Indiana Philharmonic is committed to our mission of creating performances in the pursuit of the highest artistic achievement and educating all ages in the joy of music.  We realize that our success depends on the talents and skills of our musicians.  We invite those interested to contact us about joining the Philharmonic family.

Orchestra Musicians

Auditions for the 2018-19 season will be held by appointment August 20-26 (scheduled by instrument group – specific day for each instrument will be communicated the week prior to the auditions).

To request an audition, please send a one page résumé and letter of interest to the Orchestra Personnel Manager at philharmonic.auditions@gmail.com. Audition repertoire password will be supplied after contact with Personnel Manager. Applicants must live within a 90 mile radius of Columbus, Indiana.

The audition will include:

  • A solo work of your choice
  • Repertoire excerpts
  • Sight reading
  • A brief interview

Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (PYO)

PYO provides an encouraging and challenging orchestral setting for middle and high school musicians. PYO musicians are mentored by Columbus Philharmonic musicians and perform in several concerts and ensemble groups each year, including the opportunity to perform side-by-side with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. PYO rehearsals are held on Sundays, 2-4 p.m. at North Christian Church, 850 Tipton Lane in Columbus.

Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir (CICC)

Open to students in grades 4 – 9, CICC has a Descant Choir for beginning and intermediate singers and a Concert Choir for more advanced singers.  Rehearsals are in Columbus from 6:00 – 7:15 p.m. on Monday (Concert Choir) and Tuesday (Descant Choir) during the school year.  Vocal assessments take place from May through September by appointment and during Choral Festival Summer Choir Camp.  To schedule a vocal assessment or for questions, please contact Ruth Dwyer, CICC Artistic Director at 800-368-6852, x8066 or rdwyer@icchoir.org or Camilla Gehring, Descant Choir Director, at 812-376-9329 or jandcgehring@sbcglobal.net.

CICC is a collaborative effort between the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir.

Philharmonic Chorus

The Philharmonic Chorus is open to those age 18 and up.  No audition is needed – just the desire to sing with a group that enjoys performing choral works with the Philharmonic Orchestra.  Rehearsals are Monday evenings from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. during the school year.
