Elaine MacAslan
Brown Instrumental Award Winner
Elaine MacAslan began studying piano at the age of five. For the last five years she has studied with Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Professor Fred Hammond. She competed in the 2007 World Piano Competition and has won many awards, including the underclassmen Brown Competition 2007, the upperclassmen Brown Competition 2008, the ISSMA State Auditions Gold Medal, and the ISSMA District Ensemble Gold Medal.
In May 2008, Elaine graduated from Columbus North High School as Valedictorian. She was recognized as a National Merit Finalist. She has studied Spanish and Japanese and has completed Japan’s Level Three Language Proficiency Test. She will attend Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering.
She has been studying Tae Kwon Do for eight years and has recently attained the rank of third degree black belt. She enjoys learning and teaching Tae Kwon Do and performing Tae Kwon Do demonstrations. She also likes reading, camping, canoeing, sketching, traveling and hiking.
To give back to the community, Elaine enjoys participating in and raising money for the March of Dimes WalkAmerica and volunteering at the Orphan Grain Train, which provides clothing and other necessities to people all over the world as well as in the United States.
