Rachel Barton Pine Plays Mozart

Johnson distinguished guest artist. Celebrated as a leading interpreter of great classical works, Rachel Barton Pine’s performances combine her gift for emotional communication and her scholarly fascination with historical research. Audiences are thrilled by her dazzling technique, lustrous tone, and infectious joy in music-making. Mozart’s Fifth Violin Concerto includes a sparkling toe-tapper of a Turkish March, and the Vieuxtemps is a flamboyant work displaying her mesmerizing virtuosity.

 

Hammer Blows! Mahler’s Astonishing 6th Symphony

The Beautiful Music of Dan Forrest

Featuring the Philharmonic Chorus. More Forrest, please! In response to your requests, The Phil encores its world-premiere performance of Forrest’s in paradisum filled with lush melodies, beautiful harmonies, and with a haunting ending, including distant hand-bells. This concert also features his new Requiem for the Living. A recent review stated, “…one of the most beautiful and moving works I’ve heard…embraces the listener in warmth, peacefulness, comfort.”

 

A Community Christmas Gathering

Featuring the Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir. Share in the joy of the season with The Phil and your Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir performing timeless favorites and fresh new songs. An especially family-friendly matinee is at 3pm with the evening concert at 7 pm.

Familiar tunes will include Carmichael’s Georgia on My Mind and Stardust and Porter’s Too Darn Hot, Night and Day and I’ve Got You Under My Skin.

Experience an incredibly moving performance celebrating the end of the American Civil War, the stalwart president who fought for equal rights for everyone and the yearning of all people for freedom. James Westwater’s stunning “photochoreography” has received rave reviews from audiences all over the world. Come see his stirring visual tribute to Lincoln as we perform Copland’s Lincoln Portrait.

 

Best of Broadway

Broadway has a rich legacy of great music – and not just from the musical theater stage. The Metropolitan Opera was located at Broadway & 39th for 83 years! Mary Claire King returns home to join the Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus for music from the stage, the best of both worlds!
