Who’s On First?
Unless otherwise noted, all concerts take place in Erne Auditorium, Columbus North High School and begin at 7:30 pm. Concert seating begins at 7:05 pm.

Musically Speaking begins 50 minutes prior to most concerts. In these entertaining, spirited and informative conversations, Music Director and Conductor David Bowden and guest artists share their thoughts, ideas, insights and anecdotes. Musically Speaking is open to all ticket holders.

Carmina Burana
Musically Speaking begins promptly at 6:40 pm
The Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus will perform the sexiest poetry ever written by a group of monks. But it’s Carl Orff’s dramatic and powerful music that has made the piece so popular to audiences and an absolute blast for conductors and performers. Excerpts have been widely used in films and commercials. You will recognize the music. You can bet on it!

Music of the Masters
Musically Speaking beings promptly at 6:40 pm
To golfers Spring means The Masters. Master composers Brahms and Schumann are
featured in the season finale. Perhaps Schumann had Augusta, Georgia in mind when he composed his enticing Symphony No. 1, nicknamed “Spring.”

Di Wu was a sensational hit, performing with the Philharmonic in 2006. Experience again this rising star who plays the piano with the power and intensity of Babe Ruth. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 was this season’s #1 request.

Robert Frost in Song
Musically Speaking begins promptly at 6:40 pm

“Expressive,” “dramatic” and “beautiful” describe Sibelius’ First Symphony and Randall Thompson’s musical setting of Robert Frost’s familiar poetry. The Columbus North High School and Seymour High School Choirs will join the Philharmonic Chorus for a sure hit.

Phil Plays Sports
Musically Speaking begins promptly at 6:40 pm
The area's premier sports announcer, Sam Simmermaker, and The Republic's popular former sports editor, Harry McCawley, will be together on stage in a musical tribute to sports in America. Also on deck will be Casey at the Bat, an American Folk Tale for Narrator and Orchestra performed by John Johnson; music from Breaking Away; Summon the Heroes by John Williams and so much more....
Wear your school colors!
For a special treat the High Flyers Family Circus will perform aerial acrobatics on hanging silks during the Philharmonic's performance of Skaters' Waltz.

Holiday Magic

The Philharmonic Orchestra will be joined by members of the Indiana University Harp Ensemble, in a magical Holiday Concert. The pure joy of making music shines forth from the eyes of the young singers in the Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir as they perform music of the season.

Come to the Cabaret
with Sylvia McNair
Musically Speaking begins promptly at 6:40 pm
There are cross-over sports heroes like Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders, and then there is Sylvia McNair, a two-time Grammy Award winner who enjoyed a stellar career in opera and now scores with audiences when she sings the best of Cabaret and Musical Theater.
